For this project we were asked to design a decal that had multiple layers that could be put somewhere like a car or computer for decoration. For this project I had an idea for a previous project that did not work for that but would definitely work here. I wanted to make a album cover from one of my favorite artists. I decided to do the cover for "Eternal Atake (Deluxe)" by Lil Uzi Vert. It has a cartoony style that is perfect for my skill level with the software that we have to use at home. There are three main layers the background, the cartoon style character, and the planets and designs in the background. The actual album cover is to the left for comparison to my project.
This is the first layer I wanted to have the stars as part of the design so I thought I would just cut out super tiny holes because this was supposed to end up fitting on my Xbox that is white so the white underneath adds another layer and serves as the white stars. I did the same with the eye and shirt that were white.
This layer would be made of yellow vinyl I was initially going to do this as only the hair but I thought it would be smart to kill two birds with one stone and I replaced the multicolored planet with a yellow one I thought that this would be much easier because all of the colors would waste a lot of vinyl if I am every able to print this. I also decided not to do the key that the person is holding because it would have been a waste of vinyl once again
The third and almost final layer was the skin of the two people in the image. I adjusted the color of the woman's skin so they were both the same to save vinyl again. If I had used all of the different shades throughout the cover this project would have taken an incredibly long time.
This layer had all of the parts that I wanted to make purple so in addition to the outfit the woman is wearing I made part of the planet in the top right purple and I will make the other part a pinkish color the same as her hair.
This is the final layer of pink and the biggest thing I did here was replace the design on the left side with the "Eternal Atake" text. This kept it more simple for me and I think it adds something that is not there at all in the original cover. I also finished the planet in the top left and the woman's hair.
This is the final version of what I created. It would have been very fun to created this in real life because I spent a lot of time on this. It was interesting to have to think about how the different layers would go on top of each other. The multidimensional aspect of this project was really interesting.
